Black Women in Menopause

What to be included in the research.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

Barack Obama

We are excited to announce a pilot for a free online menstruation to menopause meet up.

Spaces are limited to ensure a comfortable and engaging atmosphere no more than 10.

Join us for an empowering online gathering specifically for Black and Brown individuals navigating the journey from menstruation to menopause. These sessions will be facilitated by a General Practitioner (GP) with expertise in menopause and sensitivity to cultural contexts, along with a person who supports and understands the journey through lived experience.

This will be a safe space to connect with others who understand your unique experiences. Share your stories, laugh, cry, vent, and learn from each other in a supportive environment. Share your thoughts and feelings in a judgment-free atmosphere, and find solidarity and support from others who understand.

Ulster Menopause and Diabetes

Recruitment

Materials for Focus Groups

There is a gap in knowledge about how the menopause affects diabetes, and how diabetes affects the menopause. This means there is little guidance or support for women living with both.

Are you 40-60 living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, and experiencing the menopause / perimenopause?

If so, you have the opportunity to share your story, and help a study funded by Diabetes UK fill the gap in knowledge about women’s experiences and the support they need.

We know from current research that there is little data on the experiences of women in the Caribbean, African, South Asian and ethnically diverse communities, who have been historically under-presented in research. It’s important that we have parity for all!

The research aims to increase understanding of the possible links between menopause and diabetes, and we hope to inform and improve how services and support are provided in the future in an equitable way.

We really need to hear from people from as many perspectives as possible so please get in touch if you have any support needs in order to attend. Carers and support workers are welcome and there will be a break halfway through.

You just need to attend a one-hour online focus group. There will be 8-10 other women in the group also living with diabetes and going through the menopause. The focus groups will be run by experienced facilitators and will be a safe and confidential space for you to share your experiences. You will receive a £15  shopping voucher for your participation.

If you’re interested, please email info@blackwomeninmenopause.co.uk  r.black3@ulster.ac.uk or if you need help getting online, get in touch via 07725857170
