There are many menopause platforms out there. After scouring the internet, it quickly became apparent that the images and experiences portrayed didn’t resonate with me on a personal level. Perimenopause and Menopause do not discriminate, people do. There is a significant amount of work that needs to be done to ensure menopause is inclusive and representative and that care and education supports and reflects all those directly and indirectly affected by menopause.
For marginalised populations/ groups there is an unequal distribution of power and wealth in the menopshere. Our biology may be the same though our lived experiences are not. We ca not validate those experiences on one group that is constantly represented in mainstream media.
This is why Black Women in Menopause was created.
This is a space for all.
Black Women in Menopause wants to explore menopause in an inclusive way. Menopause doesn’t just happen to heterosexual, cisgender white women. There will be those who identify as either femme, gender non-conforming, or nonbinary. All who want to access a safe environment to understand about menopause and have content relevant to their needs.
Our mission is to raise awarenss of black peoples' menopausal experiences. We provide a safe space for black people and people of colour, to ensure that they have acces to accurate information about how the menopause affects them and content relevant to their needs.
